About GJAC

GJAC is a private nonprofit working to increase cultural access and opportunities through grant offerings, special events, and venue management of the Arts Center of Mississippi.

A Message from our Executive Director

Dear Friends and Artists,

The arts have it! GJAC is the official local arts agency for the City of Jackson and Hinds County. Since 1979 , we’ve been working in partnership with artists, arts organizations, corporate partners, government entities, and neighborhoods to support and promote diversity and cultural opportunities for all.

Our Website is a moving bulletin about our work, plus a connector to ask questions, make suggestions, and interact with us on Facebook and Twitter.

This year is bound to be exciting and busy. There’s our Creative Empowerment Series, back-to-back bookings in our Arts Center of Mississippi exhibition spaces, more concerts in the High Note Jam series, Food Truck Fridays, plus many grants going out the door to fund community projects.

Thank you for visiting and please take a moment to add your email address to our subscription list. Alerts go out periodically to spotlight free concerts, exhibitions at the Arts Center, and other events.

Wishing you cultural enrichment and artistic inspiration . . .

Janet Scott, Executive Director

Our Programs and Projects

Our flagship program is our Culture Grants initiative, which offers revolving funding with no matching requirement.

The online GJAC Channel features enriching creative content, original video shorts from local filmmakers, topical photo essays, profiles of area creatives, podcasts and curated prompts on things to go, see and do.

A Creative Empowerment Series stages events that promote creative expression, entrepreneurial spirit and personal agency.

We produce a rotation of seasonal outdoor concerts, plus a string of Food Truck Friday events featuring local culinary artisans and a live DJ in Downtown Jackson.

Additionally, we host special musician-focused and public art programs.

As managers of the Arts Center of Mississippi, we produce events by  local artists, theatre groups and musicians manage rentals of the facility’s public spaces to create a low-cost downtown venue option for community events and raise funds for the improvement and maintenance of the Arts Center.
